Born from a
Love of Concrete

Grey Hensey, Founder
"I have a thing for concrete."

Founded by designer Grey Hensey in 2012, Kast Concrete Knobs was born from a simple discovery: no one was making concrete cabinet knobs. As the son of architects and an industrial design graduate of Auburn University, Grey dedicated a full year to experimenting with cement blends, mold making, and hardware design before launching Kast.

What started as an Etsy experiment quickly grew into the niche-hardware leader in concrete knobs, featured in the Wall Street Journal, Apartment Therapy, Design Milk, and more.

Every knob is hand-cast in small three-cup batches, unmolded, sanded, and sealed by hand. The result is a piece of functional art — raw and rough, yet elegant — that's completely one-of-a-kind.

How It's Made

The Craft

From sketch to shelf, every step is done by hand in our American studio.

Design

Initial hand sketches on paper evolve into 3D computer models and printed prototypes, exploring form and function.

Mold

Custom rubber molds are created from each prototype, capturing every detail of the original design.

Cast

Concrete is hand-mixed in small three-cup batches using sand casting techniques and poured into individual molds.

Unmold

Each knob is carefully hand-unmolded, revealing the unique air bubbles and texture that make every piece one-of-a-kind.

Sand

The base and edges are hand-sanded to ensure a smooth, flush fit against any cabinet surface.

Seal

Finished with an eco-friendly, low-toxin, water-based sealer that's food, kitchen, and bath safe.

Made in America

Concrete hardware made in America uses far less fossil fuel and produces fewer emissions than metallic hardware imported from overseas.

Recycled Materials

Up to 10% recycled content including recycled concrete and superfine crushed recycled glass. Shipped in recyclable packaging.

Giving Back

10% of all Kast Concrete revenue goes to Kiva.com microloans, supporting small businesses in developing countries.
